About Me

One of the most common questions I get asked is, "What is your background?" I have a computer science degree and used to work in Information Technology at various Fortune 500 companies for many years. I have had many of the symptoms listed in this site for all of my life. I quit work in my thirties to have children. It is when I was trying to lose my post-pregnancy baby weight and return to college to update my technical skills that my world came crashing down on me.

Between my restricted diet, weight lifting regimen, doctor recommended vitamin E capsules and heavy computer use due to my classes, my pain issues became almost unbearable. I had to drop out of college and stop exercising because I was in so much pain all over my body.

My husband had a job with excellent health insurance and my kids were in grade school and preschool, so I had the luxury of both time and money to figure out what was wrong with me. I thought that, like in the old X-Files TV show, the answers were probably out there. I doubted I had any condition so unique that no one else had ever had it or discovered a cure. I also decided that if I saw probably a hundred different types of health professionals and read every book I could find, I would eventually figure out what was wrong with me.

It worked. I think I literally bought about 1,000 books (many used from library sales) and spent hours on the Internet doing research. I saw close to thirty different health care service providers, including Stanford University medical doctors and researchers, yoga teachers, physical therapists, chiropractors and more. I spent a great deal of money on useless and even damaging treatments. I also saw numerous kooks. I saw numerous mainstream Western medical doctors who had no idea of what was wrong with me.

Yoga poses like this helped improve my scoliosis.
I had to overstretch in the direction opposite the concave side of my curve.

However, in the end I changed my diet, learned about posture and muscle balancing, took up yoga and trigger point therapy and recovered to live a pain free life. I realized that in many ways I was more fortunate than others in that I had the analytical background, a spouse supporting me financially, the health insurance and the free time to figure out what was wrong with me. I put up this web site to share with others the therapies and diet changes my family and I found helpful.

In the end the treatments I found that helped came mainly from alternative, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Over the years I have received thousands of nice emails from readers who found the information in this site helpful, ranging from parents with children who no longer have facial tics to people who stopped their nose bleeds to a woman who cured her sciatica by use pressure point therapy with a dog toy.

If you are interested in holistic treatments, then I hope you find this web site helpful.
